Repeatedly crowned Sports Illustrated’s “Fashionable 50” award winner the last three years in a row, Lindsey Vonn’s skiwear is fashionable yet technical.

Article from SNOW Magazine’s winter 2020 issue.

Long-eared Lucy, a handsome Cavalier King Charles, settles comfortably in the lap of her mistress, skier extraordinaire and HEAD Ambassador Lindsey Vonn. In one of a series of design meetings held in the US and at the headquarters of HEAD Sportswear, sleek lines and smoothing curves describe Lindsey Vonn’s skiwear line—a sexy, high-performance collection that reflects not only the passion and expertise of renowned team at HEAD Skis—but equally, Vonn’s glittering 82 FIS Alpine World Cup wins, one Olympic victory, and two golds, three silvers, and three bronzes at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships. Just launched for Fall 2020 for women both on and off the slopes, if we can’t ski like the most accomplished female ski racer in history, we can certainly dress like one, and Lindsey Vonn’s skiwear is nice.

At 5 foot 10 inches, 35 years, two million Instagram followers, and a new TV show coming soon, Lindsey hardly fits the profile of retiree—but retired she is. In 2019, she abruptly declared her record-setting, speed-breaking body “broken” while confirming her spirits high.

I’m excited about the look of the Legacy line, since it fulfills my vision of fashionable yet technical skiwear

Lindsey Vonn

Repeatedly crowned Sports Illustrated’s “Fashionable 50” award winner the last three years in a row, Lindsey’s title as one of the most stylish athletes on earth is well documented. Long a devotee of HEAD ski equipment (time after time, she’s pushed HEAD skis first across the finish line since 2009), the Vonn-HEAD dream team has now mounted a hands-on collaboration to produce Lindsey Vonn’s skiwear Legacy Line for on- and off-piste. It will cement this long-standing partnership and expand it by further development of Lindsey’s skiwear line with HEAD Sportswear. A dedicated team has been set up to meet the aesthetic and functional demands of  Lindsey Vonn’s skiwear while remaining focused on the unique expertise in skiwear development for which HEAD Sportswear is so famous.

“I’m excited about the look of the Legacy line, since it fulfills my vision of fashionable yet technical skiwear,” said Lindsey. “The Legacy Line picks up the elegant style of the 70s but translates it into today’s world with highly technical fabrics.”

The collaboration with Lindsey, thanks to her experience in ski racing, brings in great ideas especially about features and cuts.”

Designed in Austria and Los Angeles, and manufactured by skilled craftspeople in Italy, the Lindsey Vonn’s skiwear Legacy Line delivers a fresh take on high-alpine fashion: slim-leg stirrup pants worn inside the boots, balanced by an oversize puffy jacket filled with European goose down (removable sleeves cleverly converts it to a vest). A sultry pullover is woven from 50% cashmere and 50% extra fine merino wool and a fitted, slim “body”, engineered in Austria by the luxury brand Wolford, features a high-functioning cuff thumbhole and double-layered stand-up collar. Form-fitting jet pants are constructed from a high quality, high breathability, high warmth softshell fabric from Swiss-brand Schoeller.

“Lindsey Vonn’s skiwear collection combines femininity, fashion and performance in a harmonious way,” says Roman Stepek, Vice President of HEAD Sportswear. “The collaboration with Lindsey, thanks to her experience in ski racing, brings in great ideas especially about features and cuts.”

Lindsey Vonn’s skiwear

Never one to shy from a challenge during her long career, Lindsey Vonn regularly forded unconventional paths and tested not only her own limits, but the limits of her sport. The first woman to start on men’s skis, she made waves by expressing a desire to be allowed to compete in a men’s World Cup race. Now, we’re able to feel a little of Lindsey’s passion and style right next to our own skin — her racing experience, her own perspective from what’s important for female skiers, and best of all her own imitable sense of style.
Lindsey Vonn’s skiwear — Legacy, indeed.
