innsbruck night city

Tirol’s capital of culture is where Hapsburg history, high culture and a vibrant walkable city fuse with fantastic skiing. A ski destination unlike any other, the storybook Alpine city is perfectly placed for a fantastic fix of both downhill and downtown — a medieval city and university town surrounded by the exciting diversity of 13 ski areas.

On the new SKI plus CITY pass, 13 ski resorts are easily reached by free ski bus – from the snow-sure glacier of Austria’s highest ski resort of Stubai, to nearby Olympic slopes of Axamer Lizum and Patscherkofel, the snowy valley of Kühtai, and the impressive panorama skiing high above the city itself at Nordkette.

One pass combines the best of both worlds with mountain vistas and culture, action and relaxation – including 22 city experiences, three indoor pools, and the Innsbruck Sightseer hop-on, hop-off bus tour. After skiing, perhaps a visit to Emperor Maximilian’s life’s work, the 500 year old Imperial Palace, or a trip to the Alpine zoo? Tour the spectacular Bergisel ski jump, then take a turn through the magnificent galleries of Swarovski Crystal World. Charming cobbled streets and pretty pastel-painted medieval buildings lend the city its unique atmosphere – also on the Pass, a visit to the Renaissance jewel of Ambras Castle isn’t complete without the requisite whipped cream topped cake and coffee moment, the delectable glue that binds Austrian society.

A city aglow with flatteringly festive lights of the season.

innsbruck christmas market

Winter is one of the prettiest times of the year to experience Innsbruck. Bathed in sparkling lights, avenues are aglitter with illuminated trees and no fewer than six charming Christmas markets are filled with fragrant mulled wine, tasty holiday specialities and lavishly decorated in their winter finest. Explore them all on various beautifully conceived walks: seven different discovery tours enable easy discovery on foot or by bike, passing interesting landmarks and hidden treasures en route. Each magical Christmas market has a character of its own: for romantics or families, high above the city or nestled in the old quarter – like the Market Place where a puppet theatre, carousel and splendid 16-yard high sparkling Swarovski Christmas tree await, or the city’s oldest and largest Christmas market in The Old Town beneath the impressive Golden Roof landmark.

Magic Lights

Another luminous must-see: the Light show Mount Magic in the Imperial Palace. From 27 November 2019 until 19 January 2020, the inner courtyard of Innsbruck’s Imperial Palace provides a sensational backdrop for an audio-visual 3D light show revealing the drama of the mountains and forces of nature in spectacular fashion.
