Glen Plake – Ski Morocco

Glen Plake is one of skiing’s most familiar faces, known for his big smile, his Mohawk,  and of course his coulior skiing. This spring he left his home in Chamonix, France for an African ski adventure. Many people  may not know this, but Morocco actually has two ski areas, one close to the city of Fes and the other just outside of Marrakech. Glen and his team had something a bit more adventurous in mind that did not include riding chairlifts. Their journey began in the port town of Essaouira and they traveled past Marrakech into the Atlas Mountains. Their mission was to climb and ski Morocco’s highest peak, Jbel Toubkal. Glen and his team made the summit of Jbel Toubkal, 13,751 feet above sea level. Their reward was skiing a long coulior down to the valley floor. Here is what it is like to ski in Africa.
