Aspen Snowmass

One of the most glamorous ski resorts is Aspen Snowmass in Colorado. Aspen was a mining town in the late 1800's and many of the buildings in Aspen date back to this time. Some ski resorts in the United States are purpose built, but Aspen was a town, long before skiing began.

The Aspen Skiing Company was founded in 1946 and now there are 4 different ski areas in Aspen including Ajax or Aspen Mountain, Buttermilk, Aspen Highlands, and Snowmass.

Each mountain offers something totally unique to skiers and visitors. Aspen Mountain towers above the town and the gondola goes right from the center of town to the top of the mountain. Aspen Highlands is nearby and is famous for Highlands Bowl which is hiking only access, Cloud Nine, the best on-mountain restaurant and biggest party in the ski world.

Buttermilk is a great place for beginner skiers and it is the home of the X Games competitions.

Snowmass is the largest for skier acreage and has terrain for all levels of skiers.
