Breakfast at Bonnie’s – Aspen Mountain

Of course you know about “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”, but do you know about “Breakfast at Bonnie’s”? In the world of corporate owned ski areas, home grown ski town traditions are becoming more and more precious.

Aspen Mountain, referred to as Ajax by the old-timers, still has a few of those traditions and the best one begins early in the morning!  If you’re lucky enough to get a seat at the First Tracks table, you are a disciplined individual since you have to queue up for an 8:15 Gondola ride.  However, if you like to sleep a bit later and are grabbing the first public Gondola ride at 9am, you are still in for a treat. There is NO ONE on the mountain that early. You can rip down the perfectly rolled gullies of Copper Bowl or Spar Gulch and rack up 12,000 vertical before 10:30. If it’s a powder day….even better! Either way…you’re legs will be burning in the first 90 minutes.  Breakfast at Bonnie's - Aspen Mountain

The only way to top a morning like this is to have breakfast at Bonnie’s. This quaint, on mountain restaurant, famous for its strudel, has been family owned since it’s inception.  Bridget greets you by name when you walk in the door and and her friendly, dedicated team of longtime Aspen locals always take great care of you.  The oatmeal pancakes are to die for and the freshly baked muffins melt in your mouth. Alternatively you can order eggs any style including delicious veggie or meat omelets with enough delicious bacon to take on any lactate buildup  from the morning’s efforts.  If you get lost, just follow the line of Ski Patrollers who are heading to Bonnie’s for their morning coffee break.

Consider hauling yourself out of bed to experience it. I know, I know. With perfect grooming and high speed chairlifts, we are all guilty of becoming card carrying members of the crack-of-noon club.  But don’t succumb,  make early morning turns and breakfast at Bonnie’s on Aspen Mountain a must do.
