The House of Romanov – Carlton – St. Moritz
-Holly Fraser

carltonIt was 100 years ago that Russian Tsar Nicholas II Romanov—also known as Saint Nicholas the Martyr—was rumored to have chosen the Carlton Hotel as his summer residence, a sumptuous five-star resort on the edge of the lake at St.Moritz that’s fitting of a monarch. Tsar Nicholas II never showed, but his presence, nonetheless, is felt in every room—60 first class suites done up with frescos, cashmere curtains, and pink silk…even in the bath. Having celebrated its 100th anniversary in December 2013 with opulence, the Carlton holds its position into its next century as the societal head of Switzerland’s most Tsar-worthy ski town.
