Skiing under the stars in Trentino
There is nothing better than moonlight skiing under the moon and the stars. Most US resorts close up by 4pm, but in Europe most areas stay open at least till 5pm, and in Trentino you can ski, snowboard and cross country ski after dark. Madonna di Campiglio was one of the first resorts to offer night skiing. Their famous 3-Tre stretch known as the Canalone Miramonte route is open every evening as long as it is booked at least 48 hours in advance. You can also night ski on the last stretch of the black Stadio dello Slalom piste in Folgarida in Val di Sole from 9 pm to 11 pm on Thursdays, while in nearby Marilleva, the blue Biancaneve run is open again on Thursdays. In Passo del Tonale, the Valena piste is lit up on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 8.30 to 11 pm. Still in Western Trentino, in Cogolo di Pejo, you can ski the Biancaneve piste every Tuesday and Thursday night from 8.30 to 10.30 pm. Night-time skiing is also available in Val di Non, where the Monte Nock run is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 8.30 to 10 pm.Night-time descents also abound in Eastern Trentino. In Val di Fiemme the Olimpia III piste on Mount Cermis is open on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday evenings from 7.30 to 10.30 pm, while in nearby Val di Fassa, skiers can rip down the Aloch piste in Pozza di Fassa, open from 7.30 to 10 pm on Wednesdays and Fridays.
In San Martino di Castrozza the “Sunglobe”
ball lights up the Colverde ski run on Thursdays and Saturdays from 7.30 to 11 pm. This is a must for snowboarders who can shred the night away in their new snow park. Valsugana too offers snowboarding under the stars in Passo del Brocon where the LGR Playground snowpark is open Wednesdays and Fridays from 7.30 to 10.30 pm as are the Piloni and Bosco slopes.
Lastly, Monte Bondone is offering “Happy Snow” on Thursdays ands Saturdays from 8 to 10.30 pm when the Lavaman, Cordela, Montesel pistes and snowpark are open.Night-time cross-country skiing abounds in the region as well. This is a great equalizer for all the red wine and pasta you will be consuming!
Cross-country skiers have a vast array of night-time options to choose from. In Andalo, on the Paganella plateau, the trail skirting the lake is open until 9 pm. On the Brentonico plateau, the San Giacomo loop is open every Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 pm. The Pinzolo-Carisolo cross-country ski centre remains open until 10 pm on Tuesdays and Thursday and entry is free of charge. The San Martino di Castrozza area offers as many as three different cross-country trails lit up during the evening. These are the Campo Scuola in Pra delle Nasse (on request), the Passo Cereda cross-country centre, open every evening until 9.30 pm (Wednesdays and Thursdays on request only) and the the Imer trail, which is open all week.
