Best Après Ski in Austria

Lights, cameras, techno-vibes and candle light. Pump it up in Austria’s best après ski resorts

Austria’s après ski scene isn’t only lively, it’s a way of life. From boisterous boot-stomping and oompah-disco to fine flutes and fur coats, the party starts long before you leave the slopes. It’s ready whenever you are.

Where to go?

Lech.

Apres ski Austria

For reserved, elegant, sparkling affairs, tuck your cashmere up tight and cocoon under a heated umbrella bar. In the afternoon, beautiful Lech converges at romantic locales dotted all along the babbling brook that runs through town. At Tannbergerhof, the tipple of choice is fresh fig and vodka. Stop at the Kroneterrace to celebrate conquering the White Ring ski circuit with oysters and Champagne. More energetic types meet among the wood and cowhide décor of the Schneggarei, also at the foot of the slopes. ++What to wear: anything fur, all things cashmere, and if you own a splendid green felt Tyrolean hat with a large pheasant feather now’s the time…

St Anton.

Apres Ski Austria

This, darling, is ground zero for apres ski. The world’s best skiers come here for the famous off-piste and St Anton’s slope-side bars conveniently cure the most black diamond of thirsts. The Mooserwirt is the ultimate party destination, cranking out iconic Austro-pop and cultivating a dance-on-the-table vibe that’s not to be beat. Waiters sashay round the outdoor and indoor spaces with impressive doubled-layer drink trays and everyone seems to know the words to the cheesy tunes. Directly across the slope, The Krazy Kangaruh is another icon of apres, and nearby Heustadl features live music in a handy suntrap. ++ What to wear? Ski boots and technical fabrics that wick away beer foam.

Ischgl.

apres ski austria

Little known by North Americans, Ischgl attracts fur-collared, affluent Teutons to sing and sway in Champagnerhuette, Niki’s Stadl and the five-star Trofana Alm. For their amusement, Eastern Europe’s most nubile shake their cabooses on top of bars at the Schatzi. The Kuhstall, a cow shed on two levels, throbs til late. The Tirolean resort that’s famous for gogo girls (and boys) as well as great skiing is in perpetual high gear. If the apres ski doesn’t finish you, late-night nightclub Pasha, an institution known for dancers performing in elevated cages, surely will. Free mountain-top concerts every November and May whose acts have included Elton John and Alicia Keys. ++What to wear? Lots of Bogner, Kjus and Sportalm in layers for when the dancing gets hot, hot, hot.

And not to leave out…

soldonnBetween the Giggijoch and the Gaislachkogl lift, Solden’s party strip is one après bar after another: try Fire+Ice, Zum Kuckuck, and the Katapult Club’s international DJs.

In Saalbach, with the endorsement of the first man to jump from the edge of space Felix Baumgartner, Goaßstall is vaut le detour.

Kitzbuehel has the Londoner and Zell am See always loves Crazy Daisy….
