Aspen, Colorado – Where magic and mountains entwine

Aspen Colorado originated as a mining town in the late 1880’s during the Silver Rush. In the late 1930’s it was developed into a ski resort that now consists of 4 individual mountains including Aspen Mountain in the heart of town, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk, and Snowmass. In the 70’s Aspen became a hotspot for celebrities like Andy Warhol and Hunter S. Thompson and John Denver wrote songs about Aspen that are still popular today.

Aspen Colorado is a world class ski destination boasting some of the best snow conditions in the United States. The base of the mountains are smooth and grassy, so it doesn’t take a lot of snow to have amazing skiing. Aspen is still a hotspot for celebrities and international jet setters. Aspen has a number of 5 Star hotels, multimillion dollar homes and rentals. Aspen Colorado restaurants rival the top eateries in New York City and include Matsuhisa, Cache Cache, Meat & Cheese, and The Wild Fig. The shopping in Aspen includes more luxury boutiques per square inch than any destination in the world, only Venice in Italy can come close.

There is a cliche that says, “I came to Aspen for the Winter, but I stayed for the summer”. Summer in Aspen is truly something to experience. The temperatures are perfect, it is light late so you can dine outside well past 10, it’s not buggy, and there is never a lack for things to do including hiking, biking, rafting, attending world class music festivals and theatre, luxury spa’s, visiting art galleries, and more.

Aspen Colorado is still most famous as a ski town with Aspen Mountain and the Silver Queen Gondola in the center of town. Ski perfectly groomed runs or challenge yourself in the off piste skiing with over 3,000 vertical feet for each top to bottom run. Another day you can head to Highlands and ski the bowl and have lunch at Cloud 9 where the party starts daily at 3pm. Beginners and expert free riders love the slopes and parks of Buttermilk and Snowmass has over 3,000 skiable acres and has something for everyone.

A perfect day starts with a Flat White at Victoria’s on Durant. Then head to Gorsuch and ask Jared to put you on the best demo skis they have. Go up the gondola and ski till you can’t ski any more and make your way to Bonnie’s for lunch. A slice of freshly baked pizza fits the bill and ask Muffin for a piece of strudel and ski a few runs after lunch to burn it off. Next go see Lee and Tom at Performance Ski and update your ski wardrobe with the latest from Authier, Frauenschuh, Aztech Mountain, Kjus, and more. By now it is time for Apres Ski which is not to be missed in Aspen. The Sky bar is always happening as is Chair 9 at the Little Nell. Don’t get too carried away because you booked dinner at Cache Cache and Jodie is expecting you on time. If you still have some energy left, see what is happening at the Caribou Club or Escobar. Remember you need to get some rest so you can do it all again tomorrow.
